Ismail Qemali’s Pen Exposed on Independence Anniversary
November 29, 2016

National History Museum (NHM) in cooperation with the Albanian Nationwide Collectors Association (ANCA) opened an exhibition titled “104th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Independence of Albania” on occasion of National Flag’s Day. One of the most valuable objects in this exhibition is the original pen of Ismail Qemali used to sign the Act of Independence.

NHM director, Melsi Labi considered of particular importance this object’s exposure due to its specific symbol.

“Despite the fact that this is a relatively small object its importance for the Albanians is much bigger. This pen is situated close to the Declaration of Independence, as a symbol of the end of an era of Albanian Renaissance and the opening of a new page in Albanian state history,” said Labi.

A series of national flags, belonging to different period of times, from 1905 until 1944, stamps used by the Ismail Qemali’s administration, cultural magazines, books and ethnographic objects with national symbols have been exposed along with a number of pictures of that period.

Visitors will be given the chance to see these historic objects until November 30, the day which marks exhibition’s closure.
