Albanian political forces remains still divided on the exact date of country’s Liberation Day. This fact became visible again on Tuesday when the state’s highest officials paid homage to the Nation’s Martyrs cemetery.
Prime Minister, Edi Rama, Speaker of Parliament, Ilir Meta, Tirana Mayor, Erjon Veliaj and other left wing politicians placed flowers in “Mother Albania’ monument, in sign of respect for the martyrs.
Left wing, heirs of the partisan forces and Albanian communists, commemorates November 29 as country’s liberation day. Meanwhile the right wing, heir of the nationalist forces, commemorates November 28.
The debate on the exact liberation date goes one since 25 years. Despite the continuous amendments, depending on the political forces that governed the country in different period of times currently November 28 is celebrated as Independence Day while November 29 as the Liberation Day.
