October 27, 2016

European Union recently granted a fund that was used for the restoration of the Apollon’s National Park portico restoration. This intervention prevented the complete destruction of this portico.

A total of 36 objects and 9 antique statues of the Apollon’s city were preserved in this portico. Meanwhile the most problematic situation was registered in “Saint Mary” monastery, one of the most important monuments of the medieval cult in Albania.

According to the director of the antique city, Marin Haxhimihali, the statues portico, the monastery’s roof and interior walls restoration has been completed.

“The process is still underway in the monastery’s external wall. All abnormalities that were observed during the past years in Apollon have been eliminated,” said Haxhimihali.

Meanwhile the Fieri by-pass completion and the connection with Apollon’s city is expected to positively influence the number of tourists visiting this park.
