Shkodra Prosecution office ordered the arrest on Monday of the Tax Office director, Hysen Hysaj on charges of duty abusiveness. The arrest warrant for Hysaj was released at the end of an inquiry focused on the violation of the law for the Value Added Tax reimbursement. According to the procedural verifications Hysaj has enabled the reimbursement of a Lek 10 Million sum to his nephew’s company for a number of articles purchased during 2012.  

The companies that import different goods in Albania should pay the custom’s fees before applying for a reimbursement fund. Meanwhile this company had not paid a single dime to the customs while claiming the reimbursement fund. The absence of a verification process by the Tax Office after the request presentation enabled this fact concealment clearing the path to the reimbursement sum delivery in violation of the law.
