Draft Law on Judicial Police Approved

The Parliamentary Committee on Legal Affairs, Public Administration and Human Rights chaired by SP MP Ulsi Manja reviewed and approved in principle the draft law "On the organization and functioning of the judicial police," an initiative of the deputy Speaker Parliament, Vasilika Hysi.
Attending the discussions in principle of the draft law were Deputy Minister of Justice, Tomi Gogu and Deputy Minister of Interior, Julian Hodaj, accompanied by other senior representatives of respective ministries, as well as representatives of the General Prosecutor's Office and OPDAT and EURALIUS missions. Hysi mentioned some of the draft law's novelties, while highlighting the definition of the relationship between the judicial police and the High Prosecution Council. Hysi further stressed the need for harmonization of the package of laws adopted by the Assembly in the framework of judicial reform with the organization and functioning of the new Judicial Police. The institutions present at the committee, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Interior, the General Prosecutor's Office and the OPDAT and EURALIUS missions endorsed the draft law.
