May 6 of this year marks the 612th birth anniversary of the Albanian national hero, Gjergj Kastrioti (Scanderbeg), the eternal king of Albania. He became known as defender of the entire European continent, military strategist and politician, with a broad culture and extraordinary intellectual sensitivity.

Scanderbeg was kept in hostage by Sultan Murati and fought for the Ottoman Empire as a general until 1443, the year he left during a battle, returning to Kruja.

Gjergj Kastrioti - Skanderbeg was the most consistent and prominent representative of the leading Albanian elite who led the most decisive front of the Albanian war against the Ottoman invaders. He realized the first union of Albanians, the Albanian League of Lezha, which opened the way of the creation of an independent Albanian state, founded by him.

Gjergj Kastriot Skanderbeg is considered by many Western European countries as the hero that obstructed the Ottoman Empire to invade the West of Europe and as the model of Christian resistance to Muslim Ottomans.
