The archaeological surveys at the “Veliera” construction site in Durres unveiled a number of ancient tombs and mural structures. Three ancient tombs have been unveiled so far while the process for a full documentation of this archaeological discovery is still ongoing. A number of other ancient structures whose construction year has not been defined have also been uncovered in this area.

The archaeologist Eduart Shehi that is monitoring the works in this project says that the tombs belong to a period that goes from 7th century to the 13th century.

“The unveiled tombs belong to a period of time that includes several centuries. These are standard tombs, covered with tiles, similar to many others earlier unveiled in other parts of the city. During that period of time the burial process was done close to the church or other religious premises. No valuable objects have been found in the recently unveiled tombs,” said Shehi.

He informed that the entire process is being closely monitored and documented.
