Ambassador Lu Protests with Civil Society for Judicial Reform

US ambassador in Tirana, Donald Lu joined a Civil Society protest focused on the Judicial Reform at the eve of the voting process in parliament on Tuesday. One day ago he refused to attend a multilateral round-table proposed by Parliament Speaker Ilir Meta. But this decision did not stopped him to joined a protest today, held in front of the Parliament Chairmanship.

Using a harsh language he urged the political actors to vote in favor of this reform. Ambassador Lu stressed that the reform is objected by some politicians and powerful individuals, while the people are in favor.

“18 months of negotiations and a long-lasting round-table there’s still no consensus. It has become clear to everyone that some politicians do not want the judicial reform” said Lu.

The chief of US diplomacy in Albania did not hesitate to address a final warning to the political leaders. He underlined that they would face negative consequences if the reform fails to be approved.
