Albanian politicians reacted in different ways on the last report of the U.S. State Department regarding the trafficking of humans. The deputy Minister of Interior Affairs, Elona Gjebrea, said that the report praised the work of the police in the fight against human trafficking. "The report listed more than 22 concrete achievements in the efforts of the government and the Ministry of Interior Affairs in the fight against human trafficking. We recall that our country since the last year, after leaving the list of countries under surveillance and after being placed in category 2, again it is ranked in the category of countries that have increased law enforcement efforts against trafficking," she said without taking into account the fact that the report indicated a lawmaker who was involved in the trafficking.
Meanwhile the leader of the opposition, Lulzim Basha said that the report reflected the real situation of crime in Albania.
"Albania is a unique case when human traffickers, pimps of Albanian girls transformed into slaves of prostitution, have been appointed as lawmakers, mayors, directors and important chiefs in key positions by the Prime Minister, Edi Rama, and his partner, Ilir Meta," said Basha.
