Albanias power distribution operator said Saturday it was closely monitoring the situation of electricity supply in the country as electricity usage set record high over this week after temperatures soared to over 40 degree Celsius.
Power Distribution Operator (OSHEE) said in a press statement it had taken measures to ensure uninterruptible power supply for the institutions of special importance via a dedicated electricity line, and reduce shortages to households.
Meteorologists predict that more hot weather and heat wave is expected in the next two days, while power distribution operator calls on consumers to effectively optimize use of electricity.
Power distribution operator has launched procedures to import electricity to make up for the loss of domestic output due to prolonged drought and is committed to provide adequate supply to meet the countrys needs.
Data by the Albanian Power Corporation show that the water level in the main Fierza dam (north of Albania) has significantly dropped compared to the same period of the previous year.
Albania relies almost entirely on hydro power plant to produce electricity and Fierza dam on the Drin River is considered the backbone of the electricity generating system as it regulates the flow of water for two other major dams, Koman and Vau i Dejes.
