Penal prosecution for careless treatment urged a number of Doctor Associations to join forces on Wednesday submitting an ultimatum to the highest ranks officials. Their ultimatum is based on the multitude of judicial processes or doctors’ arrests during recent years.

“Why the careless treatment is judged as civil matter by the entire world while in Albania is considered a penal matter? These cases should be judged as civil matters due to the fact that medicine is not an exact science. Careless treatment can’t be used as the basis of an indictment otherwise nearly half of the doctors would be arrested at least once during their professional life. Public interest should be taken into consideration by the lawmakers,” declared the Doctors Association.

They appeal to the highest ranks officials urging them to amend the article 96 of Penal Code which defined careless treatment as penal matter.
