The Albanian and Corsican Polyphonic Voices Meet in Gjirokastra

In the third week of the International festival “ Musical Encounters Between the Two Worlds” ARGJIRO in collaboration with French Embassy in Tirana and the mayor of Gjirokastra brought at the castle of the historical city a traditional polyphonic group from Corsica, Cantemu Inseme together with the group Argjiro.

The concert was part of a tour that “Cantemu Inseme” performed during the  International Festival “The Musical Encounters of the Two Worlds” organized by ARGJIRO in Tirana and Gjirokaster, on the 23rd and 25th of October.

“Cantemu Inseme” is a well known choir from Corsica under the direction of Alexis Giuly. Their vocation is to help to restore a social link that has stretched over time in their island and elsewhere.  They performed old polyphonic songs, as well as other traditional songs of the island. 

The first collaboration with an albanin group was a succes Cantemu Inseme with Argjiro of Roland Cenko performd together "The Gjirokaster weding"

After three years of absence the on this jubilee edition the festival  “ Musical Encounters Between the Two Worlds”  returns to the Castle of Gjirokastra where the journey started 10 years ago.

 The Corsican polyphonic group and the albznian Argjiro performed in Gjirokastra last Tuesday.  The public in Gjirokastra had the chance to discover another culture of the Corsican island, 

Their songs are dedicated to their island, as well as to the sea, fisherman’s, everyday life, etc. The intertwin with the albanian group was a first experience that will continue in the next festivals.

 The goal of this Festival is to create bridges of communications among cultures, as well as to promote the albanian cultural heritage.

The last stop of the international festival  

"The Musical Encounters of the Two Worlds” will take place in Tirana on the 1st November with a concert of pure albanian music from the south at the orthodox cathedral "The Ressurection of Christ".
