Almost all the Tirana population lives in areas where air pollution levels are often dangerously high for them to breathe, referring to a survey realized by the Tirana Municipality and National Agency of Environment.

Although the air is much cleaner overall than it was a year ago the survey found the capital's air quality is 90 micro-gram while in the Europe countries the average is 60 micro-gram.

The lungs of the inhabitants of the capital are being affected by the particles that they absorb each day through the air caused by fuel vehicles circulating in the streets of Tirana. But according to the specialists, the situation is better on the days off when the citizens did not use their cars.

"We have monitored the values of PM10. These values in a normal day are 90 micro-gram, while on holidays, on weekends, or days off as Christmas,New Year or the cold days, these values goes 30 micro-grams," said Diana Mile, Director of Environmental Policy Planning.

This is the reason why Tirana Mayor, Erion Veliaj, urges to Tirana's citizens to use bikes not vehicles.
