As many other cities around the world, even Albania has stepped up security for New Year's Eve celebrations, after a year in which attackers drove lorries into crowds in Berlin in Germany and Nice, France.

Thousands of extra police will be on duty all over the country and the biggest cities. Police informed that starting from Saturday, December 31 until January 4, thousand of police officers will be present everywhere to guarantee security.

Some 4500 police officers will be on duty in Albania, 780 of them traffic police officers.
