Totozani: 1505 Unaccompanied Albanian Children in Italy

Some 1505 unaccompanied Albanian children have been registered in reception centers in Italy until October 31, ranking in third place after Egypt and Gambia. This fact was evidenced during a research visit to Italy by the Ombudsman Igli Totozani and a group of experts of this institution. 

“Around 2474 Albanian citizens are currently deprived of their liberty in Italian institutions, among which 28 women. Albanians prisoners in Italy ranks in the third place with around 13% of the prisons’ population,” declared Totozani.

The Albanian delegation met with Mauro Palma, a distinct personality on the human rights field and at the same time director of the National Guarantor Institution of Rights of Prisoners or Persons Deprived of Liberty in Italy.

Pairs underlined the necessity of bilateral cooperation in the interest of experiences exchange in an international level for the respective citizens protection, especially in the migration field.
