‘Elegies” by Luigj Gurakuqi have been translated for the first time from Latin to Albanian. Along with two poems that were published in other publications ‘Elegies’ come in a book by the Franciscan Publishing. They are drawn from the State Archives, while the translation holds the signature of Gjon Shllaku. 

“This is the 2nd edition of this book. The first one was published on 1940. The novelty of this edition stands in the inclusion of some poems that were previously published elsewhere. Luigj Gurakuqi’s notes are published in integral version after more than 76 years. ‘Selected Works’ of Luigj Gurakuqi have been published during communist-era but with numerous fragmentation,” said Father Viktor Demaj. 

He stressed that Luigj Gurakuqi was a close friend to the Franciscan Fathers, especially with Father Fishta, Father Anton Harapi and Father Ambroz Marlaskaj, thus his poems became part of the Franciscan Publishing projects. This was a token of appreciation for this known personality of the Albanian culture.
