Tourists ‘Astonished’ by Korça Medieval Art Museum
November 24, 2016

After the ‘Marubi’ museum in Shkodra foreign tourists in Albania seem to be astonished by another museum recently opened in Korça. Medieval Art Museum of this south-eastern city became the main topic of an article published by German website “Bau Netz”. This museum is defined as one of the most unique in terms of collections of icons.

“Despite the fact that former communist ruler, Enver Hoxha forbade the religion a large collection of orthodox icons managed to survive. This collection, probably one the largest in Europe, is currently part of a museum,” writes “Bau Netz”.

The German website praises also the work done for this building restoration, abandoned since the fall of communism, into a spectacular museum.

“The new museum is situated in a premise which had been abandoned many years ago. “DEA Studio” architects designed the project while the interior works were completed by German company “Bolles  + Wilson”. The adaption of interiors for a museum of this kind represented a difficult challenge but the images show the perfect work done by the specialists,” underlines “Bau-Netz” article.
