The Democratic Party has asked the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe to send a monitoring mission in Albania to investigate the exploitation of children in the Sharra landfill.
This request was addressed by the Democrat MP, Albana Vokshi, at the same time the Works, Social and Health Issue Committee (WSHIC) chair, during a meeting on Saturday of CoE Parliamentary Assembly in Paris.
She expressed concern about the exploitation of minors and women in hard labor.
“Exploitation of children for hard labor and violation of their rights remains a concern in Albania. Referring to the official statistics and the report of the "ILO", over 20 percent of children under age of 18 live in absolute poverty. Albanian authorities hide the statistics of trafficked children and those employed without a proper social insurance,” said Vokshi.
She also considered highly worrisome the fact that a large majority of minors work in the cannabis parcels.
