The high college ‘Vladimir Nazor', situated in the Croatian district of Zara will from now on give a chance to the pupils to study the Albanian language. This decision was based on a request articulated by the Albanian Community in Zara and addressed to the Ministry of Education. The request approval by this institution clears the path to the opening of classes in Albanian language. These classes’ opening is a fact that catches the eye, and also a very rare element in the Western Balkans and even in Europe, due to the fact that the Albanian community in Croatia is relatively small.
The Albanian ambassador in Croatia, Ilir Melo, present during these classes opening ceremony, defined this day as historical.
“This is a special event of particular importance, and also an historical day. The first generation of Albanians came here 300 years ago, while another generation came here during the last 100 years. The fact that Albanian language has been included in this high school educational program is an historical moment. Our language, culture and tradition will now be preserved,” said Melo.
The Albanian classes opening in Croatia was also greeted by officials of Kosovo Embassy in this country.
