Italy, Assistance to Albania on the Emigrants Issue

Italy will provide assistance to the Albanian police through a team of security experts and logistics at the eve of a possible emigrants’ afflux. This decision was taken during a meeting of Minister of Interior, Sajmir Tahiri with his Italian counterpart, Angelino Alfano. Alfano declared that Italy will provide assistance to the Albanian police in order to prevent emigrants’ entrance from the Greek and Macedonian borders. According to Alfano joint-patrols will inspect the naval borderline as part of an operation dubbed “Triton.”.

“We agreed that Italian police should provide its assistance to the Albanian police, mostly with logistics, in order to guarantee a better control of the borders” said Alfano.
