Fire Engulfs Seventh Floor of Apartment Block in Tirana, One Dead

The seventh floor of an apartment block in the New Ring Road of Tirana was engulfed by flames late on Tuesday. The incident happened in the early hours of the evening. Three fire trucks arrived at the scene after police were informed about the incident. The director of the fire department Shkelqim Goxhaj said that the intervention operation was difficult because of the high floor where fire erupted. Police managed to evacuate many residents, including a couple and a baby from the apartment which was engulfed by fire. However, a four-year-old child was found dead in one of the apartments.

On Monday, a gas cylinder exploded in a bar in Pogradec and after a fire erupted, about 30 people were injured, some of them severely. They had to be brought to Tirana’s main hospital for treatment. Many lawmakers from both political wings visited the injured at the hospital. On Tuesday, even opposition leader Lulzim Basha visited the injured and met with family members. Doctors said that nine of the patients are in critical condition.
