The initiative of the Government to make the civil society part of the Balkan regional summit against violent extremism is estimated by the US Secretary of State, John Kerry. In a letter to the Minister of Interior Affairs, Saimir Tahiri, Kerry thanked Albania for the initiative against violent extremism.
"The Balkan Summit, the first of its kind against violent extremism, is critical to build regional support, making possible for many governments to follow the example of Albania to announce concrete initiatives against violent extremism in the framework of leaders meeting that is to be held on the eve of the General Assembly of the United Nations, in September this year. As President Obama noted in the White House summit in February, civil society, especially women, youth and religious minorities have an important role against violent extremism," said Kerry. He further stated that "only together through the cooperation between our governments, civil society and the private sector we can achieve our common goal, to prevent the growth of violent extremism."
