Prime Minister Edi Rama and his cabinet held a meeting this Tuesday with the Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, Johannes Hahn who is in an official visit in Albania.
During his speech, Premier thanked Commissioner Hahn and his team for the work done for Albania.
"I thank the Commissioner and his entire team, Federica Mogerini and the EC President, who gave the recommendation for the unconditional opening of accession negotiations next year. Our responsibility in this process is more complete than before, but determined and divided according to the entire objectives of the process for all participants present here today. Nothing prevents us from doing this high-quality job because we received the recommendation and we are aware of our duties," said Rama.
Meanwhile, Hahn was expressed surprised by the hospitality and the quality of individuals that were present at the table. He made clear that there will be no new conditions for Albania on its road to the EU membership.
"Thank you for giving us the opportunity to see something new. I have never sat around a fantastic table like this one with this particular design. This should be seen as an opportunity to discuss the development of relations between Albania and the EU. The Prime Minister referred to some tasks and challenges but it is important to share what the steps are ahead of us. The EU and its member states have clearly highlighted strong commitment to enlargement policy. Enlargement continues to be a strategic development for security and stability in Europe. My presence in Tirana indicates the beginning of the analytical process. This is the first step. Every line Ministry will need a sufficient experienced staff to negotiate with us because it is something that you cannot just leave to the Foreign Ministry or Prime Ministry. You have to work all and negotiate with us," said Hahn
