A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed on Friday between the Albanian Government and that of Britain regarding the exchange of information for criminal records.
Minister of Justice, Etilda Gjonaj, and Interior Minister, Fatmir Xhafaj, signed on behalf of the Albanian pair, while Britain's Ambassador to Tirana, Dunkan Norman signed on behalf of UK.
"I am very content that we signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the exchange of information on criminal records with the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Interior.
The exchange of information is a very important part of our work for the fight against organized crime.
This memorandum is a demonstration of how close our two countries are now, in their joint efforts to combat this problem that affects us all. This is a very good example of the further steps we will take, to be more effective in combating organized crime, here in Albania and the UK," said Norman after signing the agreement.
The agreement aims to improve criminal justice by investigating and preventing illegal activities in the territories of both countries through the exchange of information on criminal records.
Information will also be exchanged for third world nationals, thereby reducing domestic and public security threats to the respective parties.
