Albanian President, Ilir Meta was a guest of honor at the 23rd International Meeting of Berlin, where he highlighted that Albania has made significant progress and that the opening of accession talks would give an encouraging impetus to our country.
"It was a special privilege to be a guest of honor at the 23rd International Meeting of Berlin among colleagues, friends and leaders of different faiths across the world.
Peace and stability are present in our region and today we have the historic opportunity to make it irreversible.
The spirit of mutual cooperation and understanding in our region needs to be strengthened further and the issue of Macedonia's name due to the recent progress of recent days may be finalized as soon as possible. The relations with the region have improved significantly," Meta said.
The president also added that dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia should progress towards a final solution, acceptable to both countries for their own benefit and the region itself.
"I highlighted the progress made by Albania in the European integration process, enhancing that we are optimistic about a positive decision by the European Council to open Albania's accession negotiations with EU. This decision which would be an encouraging stimulus for Albania and the whole region in addressing crucial key priorities and regional cooperation.
We pray for a much expected success of a final phase. I pray for our country. This is a country of prayer as mother Teresa says, 'Prayer must come from the heart and must be able to touch the heart of God'.
In our prayer we remain fully aware of the immense work we must do to accomplish the standards of policy making.
For more effective implementation of priorities their support is extremely important for our country at these moments," President said.
Meta also made a declaration regarding the World Cup by saying that he wishes all teams good luck and success.
"A special wish goes to Germany because half of Albanians are fans of the German team and pray for its victory", Meta concluded.
