Farka Lake was transformed this Sunday into the host of the first Triathlon race in Tirana, a sport that brings together the three most popular and practiced sports disciplines in a single race: swimming, cycling, running. The contest was attended by professional and amateur sportsmen. The first place regarding women category was won by Jelena Tomaseviç, while for men, Strahinja Trakic.
Before the race was launched, the head of the Municipality of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, welcomed the participants and many citizens that had gone to Farka Park, which due to the investments of the municipality is already not only a fun destination for the weekend but also an excellent idea for outdoor sports activities. Veliaj highlighted that due to such sports and cultural activities organized in the Tirana, prestigious international media as Lonely Planet rank Tirana as one of the ten best cities to visit in Europe.
While praising the organization of the first Triathlon race, the Mayor said that this initiative will turn into a successful tradition, bringing many foreign visitors.
"It's only a matter of time until Farka Park becomes as popular as the Lake of Tirana. If you look across the perimeter of Farka, there are over 20,000 trees from the 126,000 we have planted. In a way, this is also a promotion of the park of Lake Farka, which is returning to the second lung of Tirana," Veliaj said.
Throughout the itinerary were present the Municipal Police, ambulances and volunteers, who helped the contestants in signaling and at the water distribution points.
