One of the DP historic figures Eduard Selami addressed the DP National Parliament on Sunday saying that the party is facing a problem related to internal democracy and to Statute. After being booed by part of the audience, he stated that he would leave the DP again.
"Even in the darkest hours of division, we have shared common values. We have become the hope of the young. The Democratic Party had never had a problem with the Statute. Since 1995, there is a problem with internal democracy, with the observation of the statute rules, not with the statute in itself. We made some promises which are not found in the statute draft. The promise you made following the defeat was that we would make a thorough analysis. There are three consecutive losses. From 1995 we have a very bad record. We have governed half the terms of the SP. That is because we have not acted as a Democratic Party. Unfortunately, we are hasting again.
This is the worst statute the DP has ever had. The Chairman shall again designate the members of the council and MPs", Selami is reported to have said. At this point the audience started booing him, to which he replied: Do you want me to go? I will not go. You wanted me to got in 1995 and we know what followed.
