The President of the Republic Ilir Meta held a special ceremony to give the Mother Theresa medal to the former Prime Minister of Italy Massimo D'Alema.
'All Albanians who secretly listened to Italian music, watched Italian football prior to the 1990s will definitely remember the name and character of Massimo D'Alema, one of the most prominent figures of Italian politics, also known as 'lider Maximo' for his vision, courage and inexhaustible effort to reform the left wing and Italian politics', Meta said.
The President of Albania also highlighted the decision taken by Massimo D'Alema, then Prime Minister, during the conflict in Kosovo. 'Despite objections within the left wing-led governing coalition, his government played a key role in supporting NATO-s historic intervention which paved the way for an independent Kosovo and a more peaceful region', Meta added.
