A draft prepared by the company "Egnatia Odos", at the request of the Albanian government, recommends setting tariffs in all the main national roads through a gradual 4-stage process, Top Channel reported on Sunday.
According to the draft prepared in 2015, the first phase foresees the toll fees for Tirana-Durres, Tirana-Elbasan, Milot-Morine highways and Arber road, once completed.
After setting payment in the first 4 segments, the second phase proposes a payment system for Levan-Vlora and the Durres-Fier highways, these two newly built axes.
In the third stage, the strategy recommends toll fees the Levan-Tepelena highway, and the end the Elbasan-Kapshtica and Tirane-Hani i Hotit highways.
According to the document, the proposed fee to be paid by citizens ranges from 0.5 to 3.5 euro, a total average of 2.5 cents per euro per kilometer. This means that on a 100 km long road, the fee for vehicles according to the consultant should be on average 2.5 euro.
The government has announced that after the Milot-Morine highway, the toll fee will be placed in other axes, but without specifying them.
A part of the motorway linking Albania with the northern neighbor country of Kosovo, known as "Nation's Road," will be the first road in Albania to apply toll fee payments. Two years ago, the government signed a 30-years concession contract with a Turkish-Albanian consortium for the maintenance of the Milot-Morina motorway. Apart from several interventions in the road infrastructure, the contract foresees also the introduction of a toll fee to be applied by April.
