Ambassador Cannon: Corrupt Judges Holding up Justice

British Ambassador in Albania spoke clearly on Thursday during a discussion in "Ismail Qemali" University in Vlora. He considered the judiciary reform an important process and difficult as well. "I must say that at the heart of the Albanian judiciary has been established a clique of judges, who operate in groups, using the judicial system to their benefit by buying and selling justice. The corruption in the judiciary makes difficult the fight against crime, " said Cannon.

According to him, regardless the good job of the police and prosecutors, if there are grounds for a corrupted judicial system, the measures against crime will never be effective. "The European Commission has identified the judicial system as the number one obstacle in the progress towards the European Union. Without a judicial reform Albania's integration process will be blocked, " stated the ambassador.
