Deputy Minister of Health, Mira Rakacolli, declared that measles virus can be officially called an epidemic in Albania as 186 were infected all over the country.

The situation is problematic, according to her, because more than 70% of the affected are between the age 0-12 months.

"We are officially in measles epidemic; figures have increased with 186 infected and 400 others suspected. What remains unclear is the fact that in Albania there are almost 70% of them are 0 to 1 year old, while none of the European countries that are in the epidemic have this physiognomy," said Racakolli.

She added that the cause of this might be their mothers, who may have been born in the 1980s or 1990s or did not breastfeed their babies. She added that Ministry of Health is ready for any kind of situation.
