The Democratic Party requires the interruption of provisional chief prosecutor Arta Marku mandate and constitutional amendments for the election of a new chief prosecutor.
The DP request was considered on Tuesday during a joint meeting of the Legal Issues, Public Administration and Human Rights Committee and the Council of Legislation.
The Democrat MP Oerd Bylykbashi declared that provisional chief prosecutor Marku election was a clear violation of the constitution thus her mandate should immediately come to an end.
Our request aims to bring the election of a new chief prosecutor within a legal framework. Arta Markus mandate should be immediately interrupted, paving the way to the election of a new chief-prosecutor with a qualified majority of votes. Every candidate running for this position should become subject to vetting, said Bylykbashi.
He labeled this process as a test for majority.
This is a moral test for the majority. The new chief-prosecutor will be elected as soon as the High Council of prosecution is established, declared Bylykbash
