Some 11 businessmen were accused for abusing with the VAT scheme in Albania. They created fictitious companies in the construction field and deposit in the tax directories, fictive bills to obtain reimbursement. The damages that they cause to the state goes up to USD 9 million.
Investigation by the economic crime, revealed that these private firm did not have any kind of activity, even though they issued VAT receipts.
These fictitious bills were submitted to the Tax Administration where they received the VAT refund of 20% for each purchase they had made.
Investigations showed that one of the arrested, Nevruz Lami has contacted the other 10 persons that are part of the investigations promising them to find a job.
