The famous Albanian soprano Ermonela Jaho will soon be on the stage at the National Art Center in Beijing performing in the famous opera Thais written by French composer Jules Massenet. Jaho will perform exactly the role of Thais beside the famous tenor Placido Domingo, who will have the role of the monk Athenael in this opera.
The Albanian soprano expressed the highest esteem for this opera during a recent interview while adding that it is unique in its kind. She said that interpretation in a work of this caliber always remains a real challenge.

Composed by French composer Jules Massenet, the opera Thais was premiered at Palais Garnier on February 16th, 1894. By telling a story of a young ascetic monk Athanael saving a famous courtesan Thais and then becomes degenerate, the opera reveals inextricable mental and entangled disputes. Numerous elegant arias and ensembles are created by the composer for male and female leading roles. Intermezzo Meditation between the first and second scenes in Act II is often performed individually at concerts. It is not only a longstanding classical violin solo, but also the best-known representative work by Jules Massenet

February 2 will mark this opera premiere in Beijing and then the performances will continue during several weeks.
