Marku Signs First Movements of Prosecutors

On her tenth day in the office as General Prosecutor, Arta Marku has signed the first movements in this institution. The Director of Foreign Jurisdictional Relations, Rovena Gashi has been moved from this office to be replaced by Arqile Ko�a, who was one of the candidates for provisional chief prosecutor. He will also head the sector that verifies the integrity of officials.
Gashi was appointed Prosecutor at the decriminalization sector, in which she signed recently the request for revocation of the mandates of MPs Aqif Rakipi and Gledion Rehovica.
Alketa Zifla was appointed head of the cabinet of Arta Marku, while the biggest district Prosecution of Albania, that of Tirana, will now be led by Dritan Rreshka, one of the leaders of the Task Force unit established years ago by US support. Rreshka replaces his former director, Petrit Fusha.
These moves came after the newly appointed Provisional Prosecutor General had a meeting with the Interior Minister, Fatmir Xhafaj for nearly 30 minutes. According to the press release, the interlocutors discussed the strengthening of inter-institutional cooperation with particular focus on the fight against corruption and traffic of narcotic substances. Marku and Xhafaj also talked about the vetting process in the judiciary and police ranks. The two senior officials expressed full agreement that these processes require constant and intensive communication, with the aim to clear these institutions fully and quickly from the officials who have problems with professional and personal integrity.
In addition, Marku underlined the specific important of cooperation between the Prosecution General and Interior Ministry to strengthen safety in the country and to comply with the priorities of the country for European Union integration. Provisional chief prosecutor Marku declared she will maximally commit to the inter-institutional coordination, aiming the successful development of important investigations, and of any criminal prosecution with high social impact.
Minister Xhafaj assured the Chief Prosecutor that the institution he leads, and the State Police, will continue to further enhance cooperation in order to increase the number of proactive investigations, where fight against corruption will be the priority.
