The Democratic Party (DP) chair, Lulzim Basha had a meeting on Tuesday with Rapporteur for Albania in European Parliament, Knut Fleckenstein. The political actuality and the post-electoral situation were among the highlights of this meeting.

The organized crime involvement and the use of drugs money in June 25 elections produced a fictional majority that does not represent citizens willingness. DP fought intensively against cannabis cultivation during the past 4 years. On the other side the situation would be much more different if the international partner would pay major attention to this issue, said Basha.

Referring to the electoral reform the Democrat leader Basha defined it as the first step in addressing these issues, in particular through electronic voting and counting and the electors biometric identification.

These changes are essential for the elections fate in Albania in order to minimize the votes buying phenomenon. A deep reform of the political system in Albania is needed to limit and control the power, starting with a parliament that is not just an instrument of the government but a supervisor and inspector, declared Basha.
