The forest fires situation in Albania seems to be getting worst. The National Civil Emergencies reported on Tuesday that 11 active blazes had been registered during the last 24-hours.

Over 156 firefighters and 18 firefighting vehicles have been deployed in the most problematic areas to prevent flames from reaching inhabited areas. Some 10 voluntaries and 78 Armys troops are supporting the firefighters in their difficult battle with the flames.

Helicopters intervention has also become necessary due to the broken terrains that impede the firefighters from reaching the wildfires.

Tens of hectares of forests, pastures and bushes have been burned out so far due to the huge fires encourages by the strong winds.

The increasing number of wildfires in the forest areas and pasture rose suspicions of arson.
Police suspect that the shepherds deliberately set fire to the forests in order to gain new pastures.
A number of people have been stopped and are currently being questioned as possible arsonists.
