Albanians work more than other European citizens. The latest data made public by the Institute of Statistics (INSTAT) in relation to the working-hours indicate that nearly 70% of men and 61% of the women in Albania work more than 40-hours per week. Anyway, despite the long-hours of work, the productivity level is much lower compared to the countries where the work time-table is reduced.

According to INSTAT an Albanian worker worked an average of 42.9 hours per week during 2016, nearly 7 hours more than the European Union average calculated around 36.1 hours, according to the EU statistics.

The percentage of men and women that work more than 40 hours per week, the average duration foreseen by the Works Code, is also much higher compared to the EU countries. This percentage goes up to 69.4% for the men and up to 60.8% for the women. Meantime in the EU countries only 31% of men and 15% of women work more than 40 hours per week.
