The Speaker of Parliament, Ilir Meta held a meeting on Wednesday with a delegation of the US Congress, headed by Congressmen Bod Goodlate. The actual political crisis was the highlight of this meeting, attended also by the US Ambassador, Donald Lu. 

Speaker Meta underlined the importance of the Albania – US strategic cooperation deepening, while expressing the country’s gratitude for the continuous support given by the US to the democracy strengthening, the rule of law and fight against corruption and narcotics in Albania. 

Pairs discussed also over the upcoming general elections, the advancement of the electoral reform, the implementation of the reform in the justice system and strengthening the rule of law and democratic credentials of Albania.

The US congressmen meeting with Speaker Meta followed a meeting earlier today with President of the Republic, Bujar Nishani. A meeting with the opposition’s leader, Lulzim Basha is also part of their agenda during this visit to Tirana aimed to find a compromise solution for the political crisis.
