German FM: Opposition’s Boycott Indicates Fear from Vetting

‘Opposition’s parliamentary boycott may be seen as indicator of fear from the vetting implementation’.

This clear and direct statement was made on Monday by the German Minister of Foreign Affairs Sigmar Gabriel during a joint press conference with the Albanian counterpart, Ditmir Bushati as part of an official visit to Albania.

“We are highly concerned by the fact that judicial reform process in Albania is being obstructed. The elected MPs chose to boycott the parliament refusing to do their job. This way of doing is deemed as absurd in my country and in the EU. The judicial reform is of crucial importance on view of the fact that legal state guarantees the interests of the citizens. It would be more than normal, on view of the fact that legislative elections will be held after a few weeks, for the MPs to express their discontent toward the government through the electoral campaign. Situation’s changing may be achieved through elections not through parliament’s boycotting,” said Gabriel.
