Prime Minister, Edi Rama labeled every effort to promote the idea that elections can’t take place without the opposition’s participation as financially supported by underground interests.

During a speech in Thursday’s parliamentary session he defined a similar claim as ridicule on view of the fact that opposition has the right to choose its path. This declaration was an indirect response to his allies in the left wing coalition, Socialist Movement for Integration (SMI) and Party for Justice, Integration and Unity (PJIU) declarations in relation to this issue.

“Freedom is not produced by the official opposition. The opposition is produced by freedom. Parties compete with each other, through coalitions or even alone,” said the chief of executive.

The Premier also dwelt on the fact that opposition’s protest through a tent pitched in front of his office was not a casual choice, but was induced by the fear of punishment that would derive from vetting, an process that is currently obstructed. According to him maximal efforts are being done to prevent SP from entering the electoral process, thus key reforms like that of the judicial system are threatened.
