President of the Republic Bujar Nishani attended celebrations marking the Day of Ulcinj in Montenegro on Saturday. He met with President of Montenegro Filip Vujanovic and expressed gratitude for the constant care he shows for the Albanian minority as well as for the worthy contribution made in the course of these years toward strengthening of friendship and the relations between the two countries.

“We also happen to experience co-existence and Montenegro is not only a neighbouring country, but even a friend of Albania,” emphasized President Nishani.

The Head of State pointed to the fact that the Albanian Parliament was the first to ratify the accession agreement of Montenegro to the NATO. He emphasized that the NATO membership not only increases the security of your citizens, but it’s a contribution to the benefit of security of our entire region because it increases the security and enhances the space of freedom in the Balkans given that we need to guarantee peace and stability for our countries and peoples.

On his part, President Vujanovic highlighted the fact that the bilateral relations set a perfect model of good neighbourhood and voiced his confidence that they would get stronger, especially the economic cooperation in the fields of tourism, energy and sea transport.

President Vujanovic thanked President Nishani for the worthy assistance and support for Montenegro’s membership into the NATO because a neighbour’s help is highly assessed given that they can be a perfect witness of his country’s development. He described the relations as perfect, but membership in the North Atlantic Alliance paves the way to new opportunities of cooperation especially if it is taken into account the fact that all the coast of our countries totally belongs to the space of the Alliance.

While beings guest of the communal leader Loro Ndrekiqi and Head of the Commune Nazif Cungu the two presidents extended greeting messages to the festive activity held at the Centre of Culture on occasion of the Day of Ulqin during which several artists from Montenegro, Albania and Croatia performed in a masterly way.

At the end, President Nishani in a message to the media expressed his conviction that Albanians of Montenegro, as up to now, will continue to be significant contributors of their state and country while Montenegro goes ahead into all the Euro-Atlantic integration processes.
