The Albanian National Team will not have only the support of the fans that traveled from Tirana and other countries, or those Albanians who live and work across the Adriatic while playing against Italy on Friday evening in “Renzo Barbera” stadium of Palermo. A large presence of the Arberesh, an ancient Albanian community living in South Italy, is also expected in the stadium’s stairs.

This community lives in an area known as the Albanians’ Lowland (Piana Degli Albanesi). This place became subject of a reportage broadcasted by Rai Sport.

“This town will be the capital of the great paradox, because its inhabitants will be a huge dilemma, to support Albania, Italy or support? For many of them the dilemmas will probably extend beyond the end of the match, but there are others who have set their mind before Friday's match,” Rai Sport reported.

“My heart is divided between Albania and Italy,” said a little girl. “Albania is our country of origin. We are Albanians, thus our supports goes to the Albanian team” said some elders. “I will join the Albanian fans ranks” said a young man, wearing a red and black blouse with a printed eagle.

The atmosphere becomes more festive and support for Albania by this Arberesh community continues to rise with the passing of hours. Red and black flags are seen on the balconies while everyone is ready to celebrate ... regardless of the match’s outcome.
