US, Senate Albanian Issues Caucus Group Re-Established

The second day of the visit of Foreign Affairs Minister, Ditmir Bushati in Washington D.C. was marked by the reconstitution of a support group for Albanian Issues in the US Senate, the Senate Albanian Issues Caucus (SAIC). This news was announced during a meeting of minister Bushati with group’s co-chairmen, senators Gary Peters from Michigan and Joni Ernst from Iowa. 

Support group for Albanian issues in the US Senate is composed of a group of Republican and Democrat senators and will focus mainly on supporting, promoting and favoring dialogue on Albania and essential issues in the US Senate, related not only to the Albanian-American community but also Albanians in the Balkans. 

“Albania is a key ally of the United States of America (USA) and a valued member of the international community that is engaged in the consolidation of democracy and the implementation of key reforms, "said senator Peters during his meeting with Bushati

The interlocutors dwelt on the progress of reforms in the field of rule of law in Albania and the specific weight and the particular economic and cultural contribution of the Albanian-American community in the state of Michigan. 

“I look forward to cooperate with Sen. Joni Ernst to consolidate the deep ties between the US and the Albanian people and to support the aspirations and rights of the Albanians in the Balkans” stressed senator Peters. 

In a meeting with the co-chair of the group, the Republican senator Joni Ernst, Bushati stressed the importance of deepening the strategic partnership between Albania and the US in the framework of the new legislature of the US Congress. 

Senator Ernst underlined the specific importance of the Albanian-American relations in South-Eastern Europe and praised the joint achievements in the consolidation of the rule of law in Albania and Euro-Atlantic perspective of the entire region. She wowed that along with Senator Peters will act in order to achieve the objectives of the two allied countries in addressing common threats and promote our interests and Euro-Atlantic values.
