Bushati: US Congress Supports Reforms Consolidation

The visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ditmir Bushati in Washington DC, in the framework of his participation in a meeting of the anti-ISIS coalition started with a series of meetings in the US Senate and House of Representatives.

During a meeting with Senator Chris Murphy, a member of the Special Commission for Europe, the interlocutors focused particularly on recent developments in the region, the importance of the strategic partnership Albania-US, the progress of cooperation in the security field, and the course of reforms undertaken in the field of rule of law in Albania. 

Minister Bushati highlighted the dynamic and constructive engagement of Albania in Balkans, country’s contribution in the fight against terrorism and violent extremism, and the progress of state-consolidating reforms in Albania, in the process of EU integration. 

Senator Murphy analyzed the present factors of instability in the Balkan while expressing his appreciation to the course of state-consolidating reforms, the cooperation between Albania and US within NATO, as well as country’s dynamic and principled commitment, for a higher level of security in the region and in facing common challenges like the fight against ISIS. He also reaffirmed the special role of the US as an indispensable actor for security and prosperity of South East Europe. 

In a meeting of Foreign Minister, Bushati with the Chairman of the Policy Affairs, Ed Royce and Congressman Eliot Engel, discussions focused on the importance of bilateral cooperation in the process of reforms in the rule of law in Albania, especially in regard to the implementation of the judicial reform.

Focusing on the importance of judicial reform pairs discussed the effects of its transformation, not only in people's daily life, but also from a security standpoint, or that of the rule of law in economy.

While praising the course of reforms in the field of right’s prevailing in Albania, congressmen Royce and Engel expressed the US Congress willingness to support their further consolidation, as an area where the US has invested extensive human resources and financial support during the last three decades.
