‘The House of Leaves’ To Become a National Museum

The notorious ‘House of Leaves’, the mysterious building where the former-communist regime alleged enemies were tapped or tortured, will soon become a national museum. This is the decision taken by the Albanian executive. The commemoration of the psychological violence exercised by the communist regime on the citizens through the secret police will be the main topic of the future national museum. “The Leaves” museum will operate as specialized institution in the archives sector. 

This building, constructed in 1931, was initially used as clinic. During the World War II it belonged to the German secret police, the Gestapo, while since the early days of the communist regime become an important center of the secret police and was used for interrogations. Since 1950 this building served as headquarter for the secret police technical and scientific section.
