The Albania’s national hero, Gjergj Kastrioti ‘Scanderbeg’ tomb is gradually turning into a pilgrimage site attracting a large number of domestic and international tourists. According to the statistics some 20.000 domestic and foreign tourists visited this extraordinary memorial that means a lot for the Albanians. The presence of visitors from Far East countries was registered for the first time last year.

The cultural heritage expert in Lezha City Hall, Paulin Zefi connects the visitors number augmentation with the promotion campaigns organized during this period by the local authorities.

But, despite the visitors flux, experts are not totally satisfied by the heroes’ tomb current situation due to the fact that the memorial’s upper part has been damaged by the weather elements and an urgent restoration is an absolute necessity.
