EP Votes Resolution on Albania

European Parliament voted on Wednesday with 436 votes pro and 250 against the new resolution on Albania proposed by the reporter, Knut Fleckenstein.

With 45 points this resolution urges for the implementation of the Judicial Reform and free and fair elections on June 18. 

Through this resolution, EP calls for an urgent implementation of the Vetting and Decriminalization laws from Albania and transparence on the finances of the political parties.  

 According to the same document, dialogue is necessary between the ruling coalition and the opposition, encouraged Albanian authorities to take measures to facilitate the voting of migrants and to identifies the criminal groups behind group parcels.

EP Committee on Foreign Affairs approved on January 31 the draft resolution on Albania. It commended the ongoing progress of EU-related reforms, in particular the constitutional amendments that pave the way for radical and comprehensive reform of justice system.

However, Albania needs to implement credibly the EU-related reforms and ensure that June parliamentary elections will be free and fair  in order for the accession negotiations to be opened, according to the resolution.
