Historic and cultural values of Kanina, embodied in dozens of objects realized during different periods of time will soon be revitalized. A group of experts and architects are already at work assessing these objects current conditions and the damages caused by the atmospheric factors. The restoration process will be followed by the village’s road reconstruction, that will increase chances for a new dimension of this administrative unit, part of Vlora municipality.

Kanina village is situated nearly 3 km from the coastal city of Vlora. The Castle of Kanina is one of the main tourist attractions in this village due to the fact that it’s constructed over an ancient dwelling that dates back to the 3rd century B.C. This fortress extends in a surface of 3625 acres. The castle was reconstructed by the Emperor Justinian in the 5th century, while its real importance was evidenced during Albanians resistance against Ottomans under Scanderbeg’s leadership.
