Politics appeal for a meeting of the National Security Council (NSC) focused on Klement Balili issue and his delayed arrest forced the State Police to begin another large scale raid for the capture of the man known as the 'Drug Baron’.

Special Forces and Rapid Intervention Forces joined this raid on Saturday inspecting a number of houses and businesses owned by Balili in Saranda and Delvina. A number of his relatives are being currently questioned by the police officers for information over his whereabouts.

Police sources confirmed for albaniannews.com that they have controlled 10 houses, three hotels and accompanied 11 persons known as 'Balili's friends' in Saranda.

Earlier, Albanian police and authorities of several European Union countries also cooperated with the operation, which targeted a large drug trafficking organization, which authorities suspect is led among others by Balili.

Strong critics were made against police for this issue even by the U.S. Ambassador, Donald Lu, which believes that if Albania cannot arrest Balili, than the country is not serious about the fight against drug trafficking.

“If Albania cannot catch Klement Balili, how will it go after other big fish. Who will want to work with Albania? Who will believe this is a serious country in the fight against drug trafficking?” said Lu.
